Magic Mondays: Impressions de France

Film in France pavilion at Epcot

Impressions de France

When most people stop by the France pavilion in Epcot they are drawn to the mouthwatering pastries at Boulangerie Patisserie or the tantalizing scents coming from Plume et Palette. But tucked away in the back of the pavilion is Impressions de France. This 18 minute panoramic film is a travelogue about France. It features beautiful scenery from different regions of France set to the music of classical French composers. Among some of the scenes shown: the cliffs at Normandy, a vineyard, a Cognac cave, the garden at Versailles, the French Alps, the Eiffel Tower and many, many more. This short film about France has been playing since Epcot’s opening in 1982.

This attraction often gets overlooked or written off as boring. Admittedly, my own husband has drifted off during the film. It is cool, dark, with classical music playing – sounds like good sleeping conditions! However, my children and I love this film. When we get to the France pavilion Impressions de France is almost always requested by my kids. Odd, yes – but don’t forget these are the kids who won’t leave the Magic Kingdom until we see Carousel of Progress!

You are not missing a highlight of Epcot if you don’t see it – although you will be missing a piece of Epcot history. This is the same show it was in 1982! But if you are looking for a cool place to sit for awhile – stop in and see some of the beautiful sights of France.
