Magic Mondays: It’s Tough to Be a Bug!

Ever wondered if any critters live in the enormous Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park? Take a journey into the root structure of the massive tree and find bugs – lots and lots of bugs. It is in the base of the Tree of Life that you will find It’s Tough to Be a Bug!

It's Tough to Be a Bug!

This 8 minute 3D movie makes all the humans “honorary bugs”. Flik, as the MasterBug of Ceremonies, showcases the amazing talents of many different types of bugs – spiders, beetles, termites, and even the infamous stink bug. But leave it to the ever grouchy Hopper to steal the show! Hopper reveals humans as the greatest enemy to bugs. Hopper shows the audience (since they are now honorary bugs) just what it feels like to be swatted, sprayed, and stomped on. But he doesn’t stop there – he has some of the less friendly bugs “attack”. Don’t worry, Flik saves the day and brings the show to it’s finale before any honorary bugs get hurt!

It’s Tough to Be a Bug! may be too intense for young children. There are in-theater effects and intense scenes once Hopper takes the stage. If you are concerned about your little ones experiencing this ride ask a Cast Member about child swap; one adult can experience the show while the other adult waits with the child. Once the show is over the adults switch – with the first adult staying with the child while the second adult watches, all without waiting in the line a second time.

During peak seasons the line for this show can get long. Luckily the queue is shaded and has misters to cool you off on a hot day. This is a great queue, on slow days, to take your time and let others pass you to give you more time to examine the details. The intricate carvings that you see on the exterior of the tree are continued throughout the root system of the tree. Finding as many animals as you can makes a fun game for adults and children alike.

Next time you are in Animal Kingdom don’t forget to go see Flik and friends at It’s Tough to Be a Bug!
