Ask Mel Wednesday: Mel’s Resort Report
Recently, the following question came in over on Mickey by Mel on Facebook.
Question: Have you stayed at a lot of the resorts?
Answer: I have stayed at a good number of the resorts on Disney property. I made my first trip to Disney when you only had two choices – the Contemporary or the Polynesian. For the first 10 years that I visited Disney we only stayed at the Contemporary. That was my first Disney home and to this day holds a very special place in my heart. Then they opened the Grand Floridian and we switched between those two for most of my childhood. We occasionally strayed to the Beach Club or Yacht Club, but not too often.
Since my husband and I started taking our kids to Disney we have stayed at All Star Movies, Port Orleans Riverside (Magnolia Bend), Caribbean Beach, the Polynesian, and Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village. For my children, the Polynesian is to them what the Contemporary was to me growing up, the place that they stay most often; the place that they call their Disney home. The irony is not lost on me that it was one of the two options on my first visit!
We also like to spend a day or two on each trip at different resorts to get a feel for them. We have had short stays in All Star Music (Family Suites), Port Orleans Riverside (Alligator Bayou), Coronado Springs, and Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House. We are definitely “World” travelers but part of me is beyond excited that on our next trip we go “home” to the Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary, the place where the Disney magic all started for me many, many years ago!
