Magic Monday: Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show
Tucked in the back corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios you will find Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show. This action packed show started in Walt Disney Studios in Disneyland Paris. The show was one of the original attractions at Walt Disney Studios when the park opened in 2002. The success of the show in Paris led Disney to recreate the show at Walt Disney World in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Usually the show is performed twice daily, although during busy seasons it is sometimes performed three times each day. Be sure to head into the arena at least 20 minutes early to get a good seat, earlier during peak times. The theater is tucked at the end of Streets of America. When they built the stage and theater for this show, they had to drastically reduce the size of the Studios Backlot Tour to accommodate the new show.
During the show you will see how Hollywood action films produce some of those amazing car chases that you see. The stunt drivers, special effects crews and producers will show you how they create those amazing car chase (and other special effects) scenes. They also give you the insider scoop on how all the stunt drivers stay safe when performing these high-risk scenes for our entertainment!
The show originally included a cameo by Herbie the Love Bug but Herbie is now enjoying a quiet retirement out of the stunt show business – you can see him in his new home on the Backlot Tour but the hot-shot Speedster Lightning McQueen couldn’t wait to get involved in the stunt show! So be sure to keep your eyes open for this silver screen star during the show.
A couple of notes about the show – I have found it is loved by boys and girls, but it can get loud – so if you or someone in your party is sensitive to loud noises, you might want to bring some earplugs with you – that way you can still enjoy the show without all the noise. The theater is partially enclosed, so during the cooler months – the shaded areas can get a little chilly and conversely in the summer months – the unshaded areas can have some pretty hot seats! Because the stunts that these drivers are performing are very real and very dangerous – this show may be cancelled due to inclement weather. As disappointing as it can be to have a day at the park and not be able to see this show, Disney (and all of you, I am sure) agree that the safety of the Cast Members is much more important. If you are unsure if the show will be performed – check with a Cast Member, they will have more information on that day’s shows.
Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show has been a favorite in our family since my daughter’s first visit. While I miss the old Backlot Tour – and I, like you, have heard lots of rumors about what’s next for Hollywood Studios – for now, I just enjoy watching the crazy antics of the drivers and try to keep the mother in me from yelling at them about driving too fast!
