Magic Mondays: Muppet Vision 3D
Muppet*Vision 3D can be found in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and at Disney’s California Adventure Park. While it was always a favorite of mine, I had noticed in recent years it was usually pretty easy to get into and often the theater wasn’t full. With the release of the movie, The Muppets in theaters there are a lot more children now familiar with the antics of Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the gang. I have heard that the popularity of this attraction is again on the rise.
While walking through the queue for this ride, be sure to check out the posters on the walls. These posters depict Muppets starring in some of the classic movies, with some great puns! The pre-show area is set up as a backstage or prop area for the show you are about to watch. This is also where you pick up your 3D glasses but don’t put them on until you are seated in the main theater. There is also a movie that features Gonzo during the pre-show. Be on the lookout for some great one-liners in this movie, including from Rizzo the Rat who, in my opinion, steals his scene as “Mickey Mouse”. The doors will open and you will be asked to move all the way across to the end of the row. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house – you aren’t missing anything by moving all the way down.
Muppet*Vision 3D is a 3D movie following Kermit and his pals as they attempt to put on a talent show. Things never go quite right for the poor little green guy and while he is trying to organize the show, Waldo gets loose. Waldo is a 3D character that was created in the lab of Dr. Bunsen Honeydew to illustrate how they are creating 3D images. Waldo seems to have a knack for getting into trouble. There is never a shortage of laughter when the Muppets are around and this film is no exception. The movie definitely ends with a “Bang!” and the doors to the theater will open where you will exit and deposit your 3D glasses into large cans.
There is a combination of movie effects, 3D effects, and live effects in the theater while you are watching the show. Be sure to be on the lookout for the critics in the theater. You know they wouldn’t miss the opportunity to heckle the rest of the Muppets. Operating the projection booth for the movie is none other than the Swedish Chef, be sure to take a look to see if you can find him!
Next time you find yourself in Hollywood Studios or California Adventure Park, head over and watch Muppet*Vision 3D, it is worth the time to visit with some old friends or help younger kids make some new ones!
