Ask Mel Wednesday: Boats on the Seven Seas Lagoon

Question: I saw boats on the Seven Seas Lagoon. Where did they come from? Can I bring my boat to Disney?

Answer: Let me start with the easier question first. No, you may not bring personal watercraft to Disney. Onto the other question. There are several types of boats that you will find on the Seven Seas Lagoon, here is a quick list and description of each type.

1. Ferries – these run from the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Magic Kingdom. These large passenger ferries are part of the Disney transportation system.

2. Water Taxis – these boats are also part of the Disney transportation system. These are smaller boats that run from the Magic Kingdom to the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian and from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary, Fort Wilderness, and the Wilderness Lodge.

3. Specialty Cruises – these are special event boats (such as the Pirate Cruise) or privately chartered boats for events such as a fireworks cruise. These are separately priced events that require reservations.

4. Boat rentals – at the resorts around the Seven Seas Lagoon you can rent a boat (types and sizes of boat vary based on location) and go for a spin around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, or even down the Sassagoula River to Downtown Disney. Prices depend on the type of boat and length of rental.

5. Sporting Boats – out on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake you will also see fishing boats and para-sailing boats. For an additional fee, you can go catch and release bass fishing on a guided excursion or you can try your hand at para-sailing for an amazing view of the Magic Kingdom!

6. Security Boats – last, but certainly not least, you will see small security boats patrolling the waters of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.

So while I don’t know exactly what type of boat you saw it probably fell into one of these categories!
