Magic Monday: The Festival of the Lion King
Hidden in the corner of Camp Minnie-Mickey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom you can find The Festival of the Lion King, a must see musical show featuring all of your favorites from Disney’s classic film, The Lion King. This 30 minute show is performed throughout the day, be sure to check the Times Guide when you enter the park to figure out when the shows are.
I recommend arriving about 30 minutes before show time (even earlier during peak season). Your “camp counselors” (the CMs in Camp Minnie Mickey) will have you wait outside the theater until it is time to enter. Once the doors open you are split into 4 different sections – giraffe, lion, warthog, and elephant. Choose your section wisely – you are part of the show! When the show begins – each section will have a leader – a member of the show, who will instruct and lead your section in making some noise. Once you have called your animals into the theater – the show can really begin!
The Festival of the Lion King is filled with acrobatics, singing, dancing, and storytelling. You will hear some of your favorites from the Disney movie performed by the cast of the show while animals dance around in front of the audience. Keep your eyes open – I have spotted flipping monkeys, twirling zebras, lurking crocodiles, and soaring birds. The singing, dancing and acrobatics in this show never cease to take my breath away when I watch it.
Next time you are at Disney’s Animal Kingdom make sure to clear some time in your schedule to go watch this Disney classic! The Festival of the Lion King is rumored to be moving to make way for the new Avatar land at Animal Kingdom – moving but not leaving! These means that we might see The Festival of the Lion King closed for a few months while it is relocated inside the park but that scenario is much preferred to the thought of taking away one of the best shows at Disney! As of right now, these are all rumors – Disney has not released any concrete information on the future of The Festival of the Lion King – but as soon as they do, I will be sure to let you know! So for now, be sure to stop in and say hi to Simba, Timon, Pumbaa and the gang the next time you are at Animal Kingdom – you are in for a swingin’ good time.
This is the best show, my whole family got to participate.
Thanks for the tip! We’ll have to check this one out next time!

Festival of the Lion King is my all time favorite Disney World show!! I love how much is put into it and the performers are amazing. I wanted to be the bird so much for that show!
We LOVE this show! Always makes me a little teary, as I sang Circle of Life to my little guy when he was a baby. 🙂
